US equity indexes closed on a positive note, SPX +12pts (0.3%) at 4121. Nasdaq comp' +0.4%. Dow +0.05%. The Transports settled +0.8%. R2K +0.4%.

Summary
US equities opened on a positive note, but the gains were rather shaky from the start. There was considerable chop into the afternoon, with indexes losing most of the gains. Nasdaq was naturally the first index to turn red. The closing hour saw new intraday lows... if clawing upward to settle marginally positive.
Volatility was itself rather muted, the VIX settling +1.1% to 25.07.
