US equity indexes closed broadly lower, SPX -32pts (0.8%) at 3958. Nasdaq comp' -1.5%. Dow -0.1%. The Transports settled -2.1%. R2K -1.8%.

Summary
Equities opened on a choppy, if mostly weak note, and remained that way into the early afternoon. The late afternoon saw further weakness to break a new intraday low of 3954. Its notable that the two leaders - Trans & R2K, were both very significantly lower, which bodes s/t bearish for the headline indexes of Dow, SPX, and Nasdaq.
Volatility was muted, the VIX settling -1.7% to 24.11.
