Cold November Rain

US equity indexes mostly closed on a weak note, SPX -15pts (0.4%) at 3856. Nasdaq comp' -0.9%. Dow -0.2%. The Transports settled -0.5%. R2K +0.2%.

SPX - daily

VIX - daily

Summary

US equities opened on a broadly positive note, but the gains were shaky from the start. The SPX swung from a new cycle high of 3911 to 3843. From there... considerable chop into the late afternoon.

Volatility remained muted, the VIX settling -0.3% to 25.81.

Wednesday will see rate hike six. Regardless of the initial market reaction, sp'4K appears inevitable. Equity bears could even stomach a push to 4100... so long as the month settles back under 4K.
