The day began with the latest inflation data...
Headline y/y: 3.7% vs 3.2% prior
core y/y: 4.3% vs 4.7% prior
Inflation was a little warmer than what most of the 'smart guys' expected, but the mainstream managed to maintain their delusion that 'everything is fine'.
Equities opened broadly flat. There were a few swings, with the SPX printing 4453, but recovering to 4479. The late afternoon saw cooling to 4456, and settling at 4467.
Volatility was ground lower, the VIX printing a cash market high of 14.09, but settling -5.3% to 13.48.
