US equity indexes closed significantly lower, SPX -58pts (1.3%) at 4314. Nasdaq comp' -1.6%. Dow -1.0%. The Transports settled -3.4%. R2K -2.1%

Summary
US equities opened moderately lower. There was a failed opening bounce, with the SPX cooling to 4335 (the August low). From there... further bounce attempts, but none lasted very long, the SPX falling into the late afternoon to 4303, and settling at 4314.
Volatility picked up, the VIX printing 20.15, if cooling back to settle +7.5% at 19.22.
