US equity indexes closed broadly lower, SPX -55pts (1.3%) at 4204. Nasdaq comp' -2.2%. Dow -0.7%. The Transports settled -0.6%. R2K -1.6%.

Summary
Pre-market saw significant gains of around SPX +55pts, but they faded by the open to +20pts. From there... it was a day of considerable chop, if leaning increasingly weak into the late afternoon. There was certainly some degree of 'rats selling into the weekend', especially within tech and Chinese stocks.
Volatility mostly churned, the VIX settling +1.7% to 30.75.
