US equity indexes closed very significantly higher, SPX +89pts (2.1%) at 4262. Nasdaq comp' +2.9%. Dow +1.8%. The Transports settled +2.6%. R2K +1.5%.

Summary
US equities opened moderately higher. Whilst the gains were shaky, the market saw a secondary push upward into the afternoon.
Meanwhile...
Unleaded gasoline: 163.9 pence per liter, x 3.785 (liter> US gallon) x 1.3045 (GBP >USD) = $8.09. Diesel works out at $8.59.
The late afternoon saw considerable chop, with the market managing to settle very significantly higher. Volatility cooled, the VIX settling -6.1% to 29.83.
