Summary

It was just another Thursday in equity land, with the SPX opening very significantly lower, but 3330 was all the bears could muster... a notable 20pts above last Friday's low. Indeed, an opening reversal, with equities clawing upward into mid morning.

Early afternoon saw 3328... further chop to 3329 at 3pm, and leaning upward into the close.

Volatility saw an opening spike high of 28.91, but quickly cooled back, the VIX settling +1.6% at 26.46. Friday OPEX will be inclined toward broad chop, if leaning on the upward side.

Summary

It was a relatively subdued fed day, with the SPX pushing to 3428 on the fed press release, but then swinging (if gently) lower into the late afternoon to 3384, for what was arguably a case of post fed depression.

Volatility was itself subdued, the VIX settling +1.8% at 26.04. Thursday offers some equity weakness, but anything significant/sustained appears unlikely this side of the weekend/OPEX.

It was indeed just another day in the twilight zone...

The afternoon saw the 'Apple event', but many were frustrated there was no new iPhone. The market had already been leaning weak before 1pm, and the late afternoon saw some moderate cooling to 3389, with a mini recovery into the close to 3402.

Volatility was itself subdued ahead of the fed, the VIX settling -1.0% at 25.59. Whilst the fed can't be expected to announce anything of significance, Wednesday afternoon will threaten some drama.
