Renewed rate cut hopes

US equity indexes closed very mixed, SPX -49pts (0.9%) at 5584. Nasdaq comp' +1.9%. Dow +0.1%. The Transports settled +2.2%. R2K +3.6%

Headline y/y: 3.0% vs 3.3% prior
Core y/y: 3.3% vs 3.4% prior

... which was certainly fine, with the market having renewed hopes of a rate cut, as is seemingly on the menu this Sept' 18th. 

Equities opened a little choppy, but once again... the SPX and Nasdaq comp' broke new hist' highs. 

The gains didn't hold though, with most indexes turning red. Individual sectors were VERY mixed, with powerful upside in the home builders, miners, and retail stocks, whilst tech' was rather powerfully lower.

The late afternoon saw a minor bounce, but really... the main indexes were very mixed indeed.

Volatility was a little mixed, the VIX printing an early low of 12.47, spiking to 13.33, and settling +0.5% at 12.92.
