The Resilient Market

US equity indexes closed on a positive note, SPX +39pts (0.9%) at 4198. Nasdaq comp' +1.5%. Dow +0.3%. The Transports settled +0.5%. R2K +0.6%.

SPX - daily

VIX - daily

Summary

US equities opened a little choppy, but the market pushed upward to 4186... back to the May 1st high. There was a distinct reversal from there, cooling back to 4160, but swinging upward to print 4202, and settling at 4198.

Volatility was ground lower, the VIX settling -4.9% to 16.05.

Considering 'everything', the US and most other world markets are remarkably resilient. Whatever reason you want to attribute to the upside doesn't really matter. What matters is that today saw the SPX print a new high for the year, and sure ain't bearish.
