US equity indexes closed rather mixed, SPX -1pt (0.03%) at 4136. Nasdaq comp' +0.6%. Dow -0.5%. The Transports settled +1.1%. R2K -0.04%.

Summary
The latest inflation data was issued in pre-market, with the market seeing a number of rather strong swings, opening marginally positive. The SPX battled to 4159, but saw a very significant reversal to 3995 by late morning. From there... an almost equally strong rebound to 4145, and settling at 4136.
Volatility was never supportive of the mid morning equity declines, the VIX settling -7.0% to 18.91.
