Summary
US equities opened broadly higher, as the mainstream were satisfied with 'only' 837k weekly jobless claims. The opening gains were shaky though, with an initial washout from 3397 to 3367. A secondary wave upward printed 3386. The late afternoon saw considerable minor chop.
Volatility was itself muted, the VIX settling +1.2% to 26.70. The SPX black candle leans problematic into the weekend, with VIX having not supported equity gains for the past two days.
