Rats selling into the weekend

US equity indexes closed broadly weak, SPX -34pts (0.8%) at 4458. Nasdaq comp' -0.9%. Dow -0.8%. The Transports settled -0.5%. R2K -1.0%.

Summary

US equities opened on a positive note, but the gains were shaky from the start, with the SPX cooling back to 4477. 

Meanwhile...

Almost two decades
 

The afternoon saw another rally attempt... but it failed, with a distinct case of 'rats selling into the weekend'.

Volatility picked up into the weekend, the VIX settling +11.4% to 20.95, a notable close above the key 20 threshold, which bodes problematic for next Monday.

... and I'm all out of bubble gum

New 'smart' glasses from Facebook, with built in speakers and a mic for recording. What more do the millennials need?

Yours truly did start Thursday in a '... and I'm all out of bubble gum' mood. It is often a good idea to regularly 'cleanse' those Twitter followers whom don't like notions such as liberty, freedom, and capitalism.

The afternoon saw considerable chop, ending on a weak note, with the SPX printing a new intraday low of 4492.07. Volatility picked up a little more, the VIX settling +4.7% to 18.80.

Wednesday weakness

US equity indexes closed on a weak note, SPX -5pts (0.1%) at 4514. Nasdaq comp' -0.6%. Dow -0.2%. The Transports settled -0.3%. R2K -1.1%

Summary

US equities opened a little weak, saw an opening reversal, but that itself was reversed, with the SPX cooling to 4493. The afternoon saw a choppy recovery, if still settling a little weak.

Volatility picked up, the VIX printing 19.52, if cooling back to settle -1.0% to 17.96.
