Into the long weekend

US equity indexes closed a little mixed, SPX -1pt (0.03%) at 4535. Nasdaq comp' +0.2%. Dow -0.2%. The Transports settled -1.1%. R2K -0.5%

Summary

Equities saw a little early cooling to sp'4521 on weak jobs data, but then recovered to resume minor chop mode, as was very natural ahead of the long weekend.

Meanwhile...


It will make little difference to those on the streets of Philadelphia, that its a Labor day holiday weekend.

Volatility was naturally subdued, the VIX settling u/c at 16.41.

Mixed Thursday

US equity indexes closed on a positive note, SPX +12pts (0.3%) at 4536. Nasdaq comp' +0.1%. Dow +0.4%. The Transports settled +1.1%. R2K +0.7%

Summary

US equities opened on a positive note, with the SPX and Nasdaq comp' breaking new historic highs. For a Thursday... that was especially impressive. The afternoon saw considerable chop, if cooling back a little.

Volatility remained broadly subdued, the VIX settling +1.9% to 16.41.

You oughta know

US equity indexes closed a little mixed, SPX +1pt (0.03%) at 4524. Nasdaq comp' +0.3%. Dow -0.1%. The Transports settled +0.6%. R2K +0.7%

Summary

US equities opened a little choppy, if leaning on the positive side, which was enough for the Nasdaq comp' to break a new hist' high. 

Meanwhile...

If you're an American citizen, and if you're not filled with rage at what has happened, I'd suggest you check you still have a pulse.

The afternoon saw considerable chop, with a little cooling into the close. Volatility was subdued, the VIX settling -2.2% to 16.11. The s/t setup favours the equity bears, not least for a Thursday, but ahead of a long weekend, the bears can't expect much.
