US equity indexes closed rather mixed, SPX +5pts (0.1%) at 4508. Nasdaq comp' +0.1%. Dow -0.1%. The Transports settled -1.0%. R2K -1.5%

Summary

US equities opened in minor chop mode. There was moderate cooling to 4487, but recovering to settle at 4508. However, whilst the headline indexes - SPX, Dow, Nas' were subdued, the two leaders - Trans/R2K were sig' lower. The headline indexes could be expected to follow on Friday.

Volatility remained subdued, the VIX settling +1.0% at 14.32
