US equity indexes closed very significantly lower, SPX -65pts (1.6%) at 3935. Nasdaq comp' -3.2%. Dow -1.0%. The Transports settled -1.2%. R2K -2.4%.

Summary
US equities were pretty wild in pre-market, with the SPX seeing gains of +45pts or so, swinging to -30pts, with the release of the 'hotter than expected' CPI data.
Equities opened broadly lower. There was a failed rally to 4046, only to result in a new multi-year low of 3942. The afternoon saw repeated bounce attempts, but they all failed, with yet another new low of 3928. Underlying price action remains outright ugly.
Volatility remains elevated, the VIX settling -1.3% to 32.56.
