US equity indexes closed significantly lower, SPX -51pts (1.3%) at 3768. Nasdaq comp' -2.1%. Dow -1.1%. The Transports settled -2.4%.

Summary
US equities opened choppy, with a push to 3838, but then a significant reversal to 3790. The market swung to 3843 in the 12pm hour, but comments from Powell resulted in yields spiking... and that upset the equity cart.
Not the best of signs.
The afternoon saw the SPX spiral to 3723, and then a rather typical 2pm hour turn, settling at 3768.
Volatility picked up, the VIX spiking to the 31s, and settling +7.1% to 28.57.
