Red boxes on a Thursday

US equity indexes closed rather mixed, SPX +5pts (0.1%) at 4405. Nasdaq comp' +0.1%. Dow -0.2%. The Transports settled -1.2%.

SPX - daily5

VIX - daily3

Summary

US equities opened broadly lower, but all the bears could manage was sp'4367, which was notably a precise fill of a minor legacy price gap. From there.. the market rallied (if choppy).

Meanwhile...

There is much to be said for spending a little time watching the Alaskan bears.

LIVE feed:

The afternoon saw the SPX see considerable chop, printing 4417 in the closing hour, and settling fractionally higher at 4405. Friday will be OPEX, and we have to expect considerable chop into the weekend.

Volatility picked up, the VIX printing 24.74, if cooling back to settle +0.5% to 21.67.

I will just add, for the 'crash callers' out there, go stare at the above SPX chart for a good thirty minutes. We have a series of higher highs and higher lows, and that sure ain't bearish, is it?

Who doesn't like ice-cream?

US equity indexes closed broadly lower, SPX -47pts (1.1%) at 4400. Nasdaq comp' -0.9%. Dow -1.1%. The Transports settled -0.8%.

SPX - daily5

VIX - daily3

Summary

US equities opened a touch weak, with the SPX cooling to 4440.

Meanwhile...

Who doesn't like ice-cream? Congratulations to the US populace, whom after almost two decades, thousands of dead military, and a few trillion dollars, have this iconic picture as a result of their leaving.

If only some of that capital had instead been spent at home...

But hey, I'm well aware many are more thirsty for war, than for trying to solve some of the societal problems.

The afternoon saw further minor chop, with the market seeing a post FOMC-minutes spiral to 4397, and settling at psy'4400.

Volatility was subdued into the mid afternoon, with the VIX spiking upward, and settling +20.4% to 20.57. The s/t setup favours the bears, not least with tomorrow being a Thursday.
